It is early evening, the night before we share our “Home for the Holidays” online, virtual concert. Our phones have been binging constantly over the last three weeks with text message questions, requests, and calls-to-action. Our partners were annoyed at first but came to expect the barrage of messages at 7am, 7pm and often lasting until midnight.
Today, our phones are oddly quiet, with everything pretty much ready to go. During this calm one thought keeps replaying in my mind, “I am so thankful to be a part of ‘Rona.” I am thankful for many things, especially my family who support my career in music. When the pandemic ended live performances the emotional weight started pulling me down. It felt as if everything I had been given and worked for was going to waste.
In this moment, the incredible opportunity to create music with ‘Rona Quartet has softened that feeling. It also put a spotlight on the breadth of skills and knowledge that we as musicians possess beyond playing an instrument. The last few messages on our text chain are an expression of this, surrounded by little hearts because we love responding in emojis. Now we can enjoy quiet phones for an evening, and for all of that, I am, and we are, forever thankful.
